Fraud in the name of Gift/Prize Amount
On 21st June, 2018. I got a call from an unknown number, A girl was speaking and she told me that my number has been selected for gift since I am a regular online customer. I definitely had doubts for that I asked questions like where did they get my number and all. Since these days numbers and data are being sold I didn’t have much problem on that. definitely I asked for the process if is there any hidden things. She was like to receive the gift you have to purchase from our portal with whatever the amount I want. She only suggested me to go for the lesser amount. Then I had bit of trust because they had a portal. Even there were products which I could use. So I thought If I purchase something which I can use then its not a big deal even if they don’t give prize its okay but what if they are genuine. So lets give a try. I made a purchase immediately of Rs. 549. I ordered for a selfie stick. there was no link in the portal to make payment. Since it was only for Rs.549. I took a risk to check them. They sent me a link of PayUmoney and asked me for the Transaction ID. They told me I will get a confirmation call within 24 hrs from gift department. but I didnt get any call for 24 hrs. So I called them back to the number ((+91)97180 00864) which they provided me during the purchase. I spoke to Mr. Ashish Sharma as informed to me, and he confirmed me that I will get a call for sure. So the next day i.e. 23rd June I got a call and Mr. Rahul was on the phone (+91- 8750418750), He asked me to chose a gift out of four options i.e An iPhone 7, Dell Laptop, Vespa Scooty and a TV. So I was like okay give me Dell Laptop worth Rs. 78,000. I was still not sure but they were giving me as a gift then why should I even bother. bt Then comes the twist. Mr. Rahul asked me to pay the GST amount of Rs. 7786. I had a doubt but somewhere I got trust on them because the PayUmoney was showing me their Account details and address. Even I was recording their calls. Even I got confirmation for my purchase and delivery number and courier details. I told Rahul that I hope it is not a fraud. Then I thought I am making online payment so definitely PayUmoney will be having their records and they wont take this much risk to cheat people. So I made the transaction of Rs. 7786 through PayUmoney link on 23rd June.
I also got a payment confirmation mail on 24th June giving me all details. By this time I got a confidence that They are genuine. they were still picking up my call. but it was saturday. So may be they didn’t actually processed my gift. Mr. Rahul also told me that you will get confirmation call by Monday. Still the same day I called Mr. Rahul regarding the gift to check if I get the model of laptop of my choice. He was like I can even chose for money, My total prize amount is Rs. 1,04,000 so I can chose anything within this limit. I can also encash it. bt for that He needs to generate another payment link through PayUmoney to link my account. I again got a doubt and told why do you need another payment I have already made a payment if this is the process to link account then you can already link it. Bt he was like sir don’t worry money won’t get transferred I will cancel the payment. Then I called Mr. Ashish and asked him for the same, because he was the person who contacted me first, and he was my contact point. He told sir may be this is the process, you can follow what Mr. Rahul is asking. I told Mr. rahul that I don’t have more money to transfer. He was like sir you just initiate the payment, we don’t need money. I was like okay. because I really didnt have that much of amount in my account. He sent me a link of somewhere 15k. I initiated and the payment was failed. I confirmed him that I have tried to pay and it got failed, I hope it will work now. He was like okay sir Monday you will get confirmation. So, Actually I didn’t make any payment and waited till monday. On monday I asked Mr. Rahul to explain me. Then he changed his explaination and told me that sir you have to make a payment to initiate this prize amount. Since I already made a payment of Rs. 7786. I got trapped. That time only I decided to make a complain. bt I was like when I have already paid 7786 lets pay some more. What if they are still genuine. See the greed of getting 1 lakh was always there.. and there was something happening so I was hopeful somewhere. I told I can make another 3 K. He was like okay sir make it. He generated a link of 3K and sent me and I made the payment. He then confirmed me for the gift prize as 24hrs. So I called him the very next day.. He was like sir it will be done don’t worry.. It is actually 24 working hrs. I got pissed off because i really had some faith and was hoping for the gift amount.Actually I was really in need of money. I thought what if they really give me. So i called Ashish again.. I asked him.. to at least give me a confirmation. bt he also told me that sir please have a trust, it takes time but It will be done… then again I waited for another day and again no updates. By this time I got the deliver of the Selfie stick. which is okay and worth the amount of 549 but the remote was not working. bt here I was least interested in the selfie stick. I called ashish and rahul again bt this time no one was picking my call. Then I called from a new number to Ashish. Ashish picked up this time. I told him. He was like sir trust us you will get the gift prize amount. it takes time. I asked for a confirmation mail. What they did is I got a call (+91- 8743874385) from a girl name Ankita. She was like Sir do you want to change your gift to cash. I said yes I want in cash but I want mail not a call. SHe was like everything is getting recorded so you don’t worry. I was like okay. get it done. She asked me to call the next day at 12. bt again it didnt happen. and no body picked up my call. So I wrote a mail to them on 27th June stating that if they don’t make payment by tomorrow (28th June) then I will file a police complain. On 28th 12 oclock i called Ashish, and he picked the call. I told him that it is not threatening but its a request to do it else I will be left with no option bt a police complain. He told me sir you will definitely get your git prize but it takes time. I was like its already 24 wrking hrs/ 3 days. He then replied that sir actually you have requested to get cash so it is taking time. May be they promised for 3 days but trust me it will be done on saturday. You don’t have to worry. just wait till saturday. I thought may be it is taking time bt they will do it. I kept quiet and didnt call on friday as well.. and this is Saturday now.. I thought today I won’t call bt go to police. bt the thing is I am in bangalore and i guess they are in Delhi. I don’t know whether Police will help me or not. Is it a long process? Whether I will get my gift amount or at least my own money refunded? Will police be able to tap them? Whether they will put their time and energy to catch such people? These are the questions going on in my mind. and most importantly How many people they would have cheated by now.
whether they are still genuine? So I thought of calling them and all the numbers are switched off now.
I really don’t know what to do to catch them. Which process to follow? To go to police will be good. what if police doesn’t take it seriously?
These questions made me search the way out in google and got your link. I don’t have any idea how much this can help me. Bt having a trust I have written this much for the first time. I don’t know bt I have written it all. I am at least happy for this. because I was also worried how to write everything.
Please get me a solution. Its not only me, there are chances they would have done it with others as well.
